Bulk asset switch
In my capacity as Principal Product Designer at Bravura Solutions, I lead the redesign of a Bulk Asset Switch feature—an indispensable tool for Asset Managers seeking to optimize their workflows.
User feedback illuminated the necessity for improvements and our collaboration commenced closely with Nucleus Financial, a valued client, who provided invaluable insights garnered directly from end users.
The challenge
My ambition was to not only respond to the criticisms users had fed back to Nucleus over the years, but to exceed their expectations and make their day to day working lives easier.
My high level goals were to:
Elevate existing functionality, with a more intuitive design
Streamline user workload with enhanced features
Improve visual appearance in a new framework
My role
I worked closely with the client’s product owners and senior management as well as Bravura’s team of product managers and developers.
I led multiple stage of the process including:
Heuristic analysis of existing journeys
Ideation
Wire-framing
Prototyping
User testing (proxies within Bravura)
Visual design
Handover to development.
Design process
I was briefed on feedback that had been given to us by our client and spoke to subject matter experts within Bravura
I reviewed the existing user journeys
Ideated with my PM (himself a subject matter expert in this area), about possible improvements
Wireframes some early ideas in low fidelity
Proceeded to design multiple iterations of prototypes
User tested within Bravura using proxies for end users, (who we had no direct access to)
Handed over to development and worked closely with them for final delivery
Elevate existing functionality, with a more intuitive design
My approach to elevating existing functionality centered on making it more intuitive and user-friendly, the changes I made included:
Transitioned asset search to predictive search without modals
Displayed selected assets as chips for easier management
Introduced 'find accounts' button to ensure searches only began when the user was ready
Removed checkbox for 'only listed securities' based on client feedback
Unified ‘excluded’ and ‘included’ results list with filters and checkboxes for clarity
Placed assets details within an accordion view rather than a modal.
Streamline user workload with enhanced features
I reduced user workload by adding new functionality to the Bulk Switch journey, including:
Introduced ability to select specific Adviser’s accounts for precision in asset switching
Expanded search criteria to include ISIN numbers for comprehensive asset exploration
Enhanced asset search results filtering with six criteria, up from two previously available
Implemented status bar for real-time visibility of search progress
Highlighted unavailable assets for informed decision-making
Added summary page for thorough review before submission
Improve visual appearance in a new framework
I adddressed the dated appearance of the existing application to reduce user confusion and create a more pleasant user experience. Some of the step I took included:
Designed the new version utilizing components from my Bravura Design System
Implemented color differentiation between cards and background for clearer page delineation
Enhanced button design to ensure they stand out prominently on the page for easy access
Adopted larger and more readable typography for improved legibility
Introduced minimal accessibility standards, including color contrast ratios, to enhance usability
Provided visual cues for different asset states (e.g., unavailable, selected, expanded) for easier identification
Implemented better and more consistent use of space to aid user navigation
Validation through User Feedback and Client Partnership
User feedback, relayed through our client channels, corroborated the substantial enhancement in day-to-day efficiency resulting from the implemented changes.
The highly favorable feedback from our inaugural client, Nucleus, regarding the revamped application version served as a testament to our collaborative partnership, culminating in the commissioning of a major project to revamp their entire New Business journey.
